Most outdoor events that have been scheduled for this weekend remain uncertain as promoters keep a watchful eye as Tropical Storm Gustav moves slowly by Jamaica.
So far, only one promoter has confirmed that his event has been cancelled, while others prefer to play the 'watch and see' game.
Due to the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav the organisers of the Burger King Miss Teen Portmore pageant scheduled for this Sunday, has been postponed.
"The show is put off until further notice," Octavia Waite, a director of Octron promotions, told THE WEEKEND STAR.
Apart from Gustav's presence, the venue for the show, the Portmore HEART Academy is a designated shelter and no entertainment event will be held there until Mayor Keith Hinds gives the okay.
The new date for the show will be announced soon, the promoter said.
Meanwhile, the pageant was given a big boost by additional funding by another main sponsor LoveTV and associate sponsors, It's Ok Corporation, Spike H2O Water and Vocs Fruitilicious Salon and Bar.
There are several other events scheduled for this weekend, including Portmore Bembe Invasion, Good Times and Exposed. However, it is uncertain whether these events will be held.
As for Portmore Bembe Invasion, one of the promoters, Biggy (of the selector duo Razz and Biggy) said, "As long as the weather nuh destroy Jamaica, it still a go keep."
Jerome Hamilton of Headline Entertainment, also told THE WEEKEND STAR that as it relates to Heineken Good Times, the promoters would not be making any hasty decisions. "By Friday we will make an announcement," Hamilton said.
