DaCosta's Chadman on the rise

Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

CHAMPION trainer Wayne DaCosta's CHADMAN, could cement himself as the most improved horse in training at Caymanas Park when he faces the country's top sprinters, MEDICAL REPORT and MUSICAL MAESTRO, in the 1300-metre Eileen Cliggott Memorial.

A winner of four of six starts this season, American-bred CHADMAN moved from Overnight Allowance to Grade One in style during the summer, culminating in impressive victories in the Digicel Irish Jamaican Stakes and She's On Wheel Trophy.

In his last race, the July 19 She's On Wheels Trophy at 1100 metres, CHADMAN snapped MEDICAL REPORT's winning streak, denying the Noel Ennevor-trained runner a sixth-straight win, beating him by three lengths.

CHADMAN's previous run was a one and three-quarter length loss to MAJOR MAYER at a mile in the Bob Mayall Memorial on July 5, but he had spanked MUSICAL MAESTRO by a little over three lengths in the Digicel Stakes on June 14.

Having carried 57.5 kilos in the She's On Wheel's, which he won by three lengths, beating MEDICAL REPORT with 59.5, CHADMAN, at 58.5, should still have the jump on Ennevor's runner, who is seven pounds lighter, at 56.5, due to apprentice Rayan Wilson's two-kilo claim.

Quick splits

DaCosta's confidence in not summoning a claiming rider, sticking with champion jockey Omar Walker, should be noted as a sign of the trainer not being worried about the nine-pound weight swing.

MEDICAL REPORT appeared a bit jaded in the She's On Wheels, as EXPLOSIVE PEAK churned quick splits, and had no answer when CHADMAN came calling inside the final furlong.

CHADMAN has trained nicely since and is too fit to be doubted among suspect runners such as MUSICAL MAESTRO, who had to take his act down to Open Allowance for a battling victory after being disqualified at the level in a previous 1000-metre straight event.

MUSICAL MAESTRO used his class to outfinish MUCHO GUSTO at 1400 metres in the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission Trophy race on August 1, carrying 57.0 kilos. He returns to Graded Stakes with 60.5 kilos, beaten by both MEDICAL REPORT and CHADMAN in previous races, lighter on both occasions, and faces a tough task to upstage his old rivals.

Elsewhere on the 10-race card, Track Price Plus Pick-6 bettors can look to DR SOCRATES in the first at 1820 metres, FIRST PRINCESS in the third, AHWHOFAH in the fourth, REGAL SELECTION in the fifth, DaCosta's two-year-old debutante, REGGAE PRINCESS in the sixth, and COLLEGE BOY on a $180,000 tag in the 10th at 1000 metres straight.
