Mellow vibes at Good Times

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

'More to appreciate' must be what this man was thinking as he and this woman danced at Good Times at Mas Camp on Saturday night. - Nathaniel Stewart

Clear skies, a good turnout and mellow vibes defined the latest edition of 'Good Times: The Funky Revolution' held last Saturday night at the Mas Camp Village.

After more than two days of rain Jamaicans were happy to go out and have a fun time as evident by the crowd that showed up for the event. Persons came out in their dancing shoes and the women were out in short shorts ready to wine. Deejays Colin Hinds and Denvo were on the turn tables throughout the night keeping the party in a mellow vibe.

A mechanical bull was set up at the back of the venue where mostly men flocked to have a ride. During the night a few women got curious and attempted to stay on the bull. DJ Denvo romanced the women with hits like Cassanova, before he switched to disco as persons showed off their karate moves to Kung Fu Fighting. The vibe switched again as patrons did a little 'dirty dancing' before the men called out their forwards for Junior Reid's One Blood.

Video light bubblers

The video cameras were out in numbers as persons bubbled for the video light, one woman especially got frisky with her male counterpart. The two showed off very acrobatic moves as her feet left the floor and one onlooking female shouted out, "a mus fi har man why she a gwaan so." Colin Hinds brought a brief wining period with some soca as a long congo line formed in the middle of the dance floor.

The soca music was followed by an awkward switch to slow jams which had a few patrons pausing, wanting to continue wining to upbeat music. After a while some persons got into the music, mainly the couples who hugged each other dancing, while the single women were not as appreciative as one female cried, "a di couples time now, cause my man nuh deh yah, move to some dancehall."

After 3 a.m. persons finally got their wish fulfilled as songs from Beenie Man, Shabba, Bouty Killer and others followed. A wining competition started among some women as they went down to the floor but they were out done by one female in white who wined down and stayed for a while. After 4 a.m. some persons began to leave while most stayed on to continue having a good time.

These two were certainly feeling the vibes at Good Times at Mas Camp on Saturday night.
