Three-vehicle collision this morning in St Ann
Just two days into the start of the school year, five students were seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision.
The accident, which occurred in Moneague, St. Ann, about 7:20 am, left more than seven persons in the hospital seeking treatment. Two Toyota Corolla cars and a Honda Civic were involved in the collision.
A passer-by told the Star that, "when I went on the scene, two students were trapped in the Honda Civic for about 15 minutes. The door of the Honda Civic could not be opened because the vehicle crashed head-on. The students were trapped under the dashboard."
In order for the students to be removed from the vehicle, trucks had to use chains to pull the Honda Civic apart. They were taken to the St Ann's Bay hospital by a Jamaica Defence Force ambulance. The other three students who were in the Corolla cars received injuries as well.
The accident is alleged to have been caused by speeding however the Moneague police who are investigating have not confirmed that allegation. The police say that one of the drivers fled the scene after the accident.
