The Paralympic Games are set to get underway in Beijing with the opening ceremony on Saturday at a time to be announced. The final details of the ceremony will be given to the Jamaican team tomorrow at the Chef de Mission general meeting. Jamaica's chef de mission is Dr Rory Dixon.
The first events will be road and track cycling, judo, shooting and swimming on Sunday.
Chasing world record
Jamaica bows into action on Monday. Tanto Campbell, who won bronze in the men's class 56 discus in Athens four years ago, will be seeking to regain his world record which he accomplished in 2006 at the World Games in Assen, Holland. This was broken last year at the Pan American Games by the Cuban Leonardo Aldama, who is also present at the games this year. Campbell will participate in the morning session which will begin at 9:00 a.m. Beijing time which will be 8:00 p.m. on Sunday in Jamaica.
The other competitors are Alphanso Cunningham, Sylvia Grant and Vinette Green.
