Laws of the Cat ready to pounce again

Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

LAWS OF THE CAT, who won a well-measured race on debut, should beat non-winners-of-two in tomorrow afternoon's 1200-metre Knutsford Park Cup for three-year-olds.

A half-sister to RUN ALDEENO, a useful Wayne DaCosta-trained sprinter up to last season, LAWS OF THE CAT won effortlessly in a good time of 1:01.1 for five furlongs round on August 16.

She was sparingly trained to land the gamble on debut, getting a king's ransom of 4-1 for trainer Carl Anderson, who has since taken her to task in a six-furlong gallop, an easy 1:17.0, last Wednesday morning.

With bustling Clive Lynch aboard, LAWS OF THE CAT will face a decent bunch including DOLLA WIN, who has good speed but appears to be a short runner if kept honest.

In back-to-back races, DOLLA WIN got involved in the early pace and had to back out after being burnt on the lead. In both races, he took on MINISTEROFJUSTICE and was left standing when the tempo quickened, losing ground rapidly.

Although not pressed when beating SPACEMAN, LAWS OF THE CAT's final time and manner of victory suggested she had lots more in the tank.

Her half-mile split of 47.1 suggests she should be able to track any pace DOLLA WIN sets before pouncing on the gelding, who is expected to weaken in the stretch run with 55.0 kilos.

If there is a horse to note on exercise, without current form, it must be MEDUSA, racing out of a new barn after moving from Robert Taylor.

MEDUSA galloped 1:01.2 for five furlongs round, fitted with the figure-eight, last Friday morning and could spring a surprise with the equipment fitted for the first time in a race.

Lynch should complete his double aboard PRINCESS NESSA at 1000 metres straight in the nightpan. The Desmond Shand-trained mare shut down close to home in her last five or six races but should last at 1000 metres straight.

Other firm fancies on the programme for Track Price Plus Pick-6 bettors are LITTLE WASP in the first, NASATOL in the third, MACHISMO in the seventh and FULL SPECTRUM in the eighth.

LITTLE WASP continues to blaze the exercise track after winning impressively on debut in 46.4 for 800 metres straight. The American-bred two-year-old filly clocked 34.3 last Friday morning and won't be beaten at 1000 metres round.

NASATOL should win back-to-back races after upsetting MINISTEROFFINANCE and MUCHO GUSTO at 1100 metres last month. The tough grey gelding could be tested by DaCosta's BULLET TRAIN but the five-year-old has not been showing his usual speed and seems a bit off just now.

Take in-form MACHISMO to turn the table on old rival THE GUARDIAN in the seventh at 1200 metres after that breakneck race in which he was nabbed by MR BLAIR on last.

FULL SPECTRUM has worked too good to lose the eighth at 1000 metres straight, 1:00.1, last Saturday morning, a time which should leave non-winners-of-two way down the track.
