ELMONT, New York (CMC)
Jamaican Shaun Bridgmohan produced two brilliant pillar-to-post rides to continue his bright start to the fledgling season at Belmont Park on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old scored wins in race two with Selective and race nine aboard War Echo to move to four wins for the season, tied with three other riders Alan Garcia, Jeffrey Sanchez and Cornelio Velasquez for the lead.
Hooked up with the hot favourite Selective for the six-furlong trip in race two, Bridgmohan settled at the front but was under constant pressure from Real Moon.
When the race reached the quarter pole, the two-year old chestnut filly began to edge clear and entering the stretch, had opened up a 2-1/2-length lead.
With Real Moon fading, Spell Check came to challenge but Selective held well under good handling from Bridgmohan to reach the post strongly.
Race nine over a mile on dirt was a virtual carbon copy. Bridgmohan broke War Echo smartly and sent her to the front, racing along the side while tracked closely by State Treasure and Stone Legacy.
