Gunmen shoot up funeral transport

The Portmore Star has learnt that gunmen fired at a bus carrying persons to a funeral last Sunday.

The incident, which occurred about noon, along Quarry Drive in Bridgeport, St Catherine, left two Southborough residents hospitalised in serious condition. The police said the bus, while traversing the road, developed a mechanical problem.

The occupants disembarked and a short time later explosions were heard. Two men, the police said, received gunshot wounds to the head and other parts of their bodies.

Investigators said no motive has yet been established for the shooting but they are conducting further probes.

Operations Officer for St Catherine South, Deputy Super-intendent Clive Blair, said the police remain vigilant and nothing will be spared in getting criminals and illegal guns off the streets.
