A police constable accused of having oral sex with a nine-year-old girl on several occasions was arrested on Wednesday and brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Friday, following instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Police accused the constable, Kevin Franklin, 33, of indecently assaulting and having oral sex with the little girl, who was a neighbour in his St Catherine community. These incidents dated back to 2007 when the child reported the matter to her parents.
Allegations are that the child told her mother about the incident after her mother noticed a foul discharge coming from the child's vaginal area and made inquiries. The situation was subsequently reported to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Carnal Abuse and the file on the investigations sent to the DPP.
When the case was called up on Friday, the constable's lawyer denied the accusations. She said the child did not develop the foul discharge as a result of the alleged indecent assault, as her parents were claiming.
She continued that the parents had no medical evidence to support this argument. The lawyer also said that initial reports from the complainant only made mention of kissing and touching as the nature of the offence.
An October 16 trial date was set for the case and a fingerprint order made by Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown. Franklin was offered $50,000 bail with surety.
