Reggae Boy King shines for Hull

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, England (CMC):

Out-of-favour Reggae Boyz striker Marlon King scored on both sides of half-time to propel English Premiership new boys Hull City to a shock 2-1 victory over Newcastle on Saturday.

King, who has been overlooked for Jamaica's 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, scored from the penalty spot in the 34th minute to put Hull on the scoresheet first, and added his second 10 minutes after the break as the visitors took control at St James' Park.

Spanish striker Xisco struck eight minutes from the end to set up an interesting finish but Hull were resilient enough to hold on.

Perhaps capitalising on a distressing atmosphere in England's northeast as home fans protested Kevin Keegan's departure, Hull grabbed the opportunity to claim their second win and break their two-match losing skid.

They went ahead when Nicky Butt fouled Peter Halmosi in the area and King stepped up to the spot to beat the keeper.

Taking the 1-0 advantage into the break, Hull were quickly into stride on resumption. King again was the thorn in Newcastle's side, showing great determination to shrug off defenders and clinically beat the keeper in the 55th minute.

Late on, Newcastle got a slight opening when Xisco tucked in Charles N'Zogbia rebound off the post, but it was not to be as the hosts slumped to a second straight loss in the Premiership.
