A woman accused of hitting another in the head with a metal pipe told the court that they both had constant arguments about a man with whom they both shared a relationship in the past.
The accused, Walidah Wint, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday to answer to assault charges.
Cursing her
She told the court that the complainant came to her home and began cursing her about the man she said she stopped seeing about seven years ago.
She said she told the complainant to leave her alone, but she was hit in the face. She said she retaliated and was hit with the metal pipe, a blow which she admitted she returned.
The complainant, however, had a much different story. She said she often visits Wint's community because she has a relative who lives there. She added that she was constantly attacked by Wint during those visits, and this was what happened on the day in question.
Pipe to hit her
She said she walked away from the accused but later saw her on another street some distance away with two other women. She said she ran into a metal shop where the accused chased her and used the pipe to hit her several times. She said, "A walk she walk mi dung, your honour, fi definitely buss mi head. She lick mi several times, like she did waan kill mi."
Upon hearing the complainant's account, senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown sen-tenced Wint to pay $5,000 or serve 30 days.
