A double strike by Kemar Brown helped Lacovia High to register an emphatic 3-1 win over minnows BB Coke at Lacovia yesterday.
The win put the Lance Morgan-coached school on top of Zone E with six points, three more than St Elizabeth Technical, Munro College and Maggotty High.
In their opening games of the season, Maggotty beat Balaclava 2-0 at Appleton while Munro College clipped Black River 1-0.
At Lacovia, Chavez Channer opened the scoring for the home team when he took full advantage of a mistake by BB Coke's goalkeeper Enrique Rochester.
Lacovia, who had more possession of the ball in the first 45 minutes, made it 2-0 when Brown got his second goal of the season on the stroke of half-time.
In the second half, BB Coke, who returned to the competition after a three-year absence, looked more energised and pulled one back in the 50th minute, courtesy of Jason Rogers.
As both teams traded attacks midway the second half, Brown sealed a good victory for Lacovia when he found the back of the net in the 63rd minute.
Winning coach Morgan was satisfied with his team's win.
"We thank God for the win because a win is a win, but our players made the game look difficult," coach Morgan said.
"I think we lost the game because of defensive errors but the boys started training just six weeks ago. We just have to go back to the drawing board and come better in our next game," Kemar Ricketts, coach of the BB Coke said.
In another game played yesterday in Zone B, Rusea's High whipped Merlene Ottey 6-0.
