Kahlil - Nathaniel Stewart
In a bid to do their part in the fight against crime, Kahlil has chosen to make their mark with the help of the NCB Foundation/Digicel Rising Stars Community Development Project.
With all five men being Montego Bay natives, they have decided to provide upgrades to the Flankes Peace and Justice Centre in the well-known community of Flankers.
What is the charity?
Kahlil: The Centre is used to keep young people in school. There is a marching band, a homework improvement centre and a parenting centre as well. It has a lab with only two computers, so we will be donating 10 flat screen computers. Also, we want to have a mentorship programme where artistes come in and talk to them. Plans are in place for a field trip to a penitentiary so that they can see what life in prison is like. We want to also improve the Centre's library.
Why did you choose that charity?
Kahlil: We're from Mobay and Flankers is one of the communities that need help. The young persons are being influenced by violence and we're hoping to facilitate change in the community. Crime is what is slowing down the educational pattern in the community, and if we can eliminate that, then the kids should have a better opportunity for learning.
How do you expect this to impact those in the community?
Kahlil: We would like to see the young people get a better opportunity through education. It will be a good opportunity for them to get jobs and also influence other young persons who are coming up.
