BULLET TRAIN appeared back to his best on last when beating TOBAGO, and should go all the way in tomorrow's 1000-metre straight Reggae Trophy feature race for graded stakes runners.
Returning off a near three-month lay-up on September 10, BULLET TRAIN outsped TOBAGO and NASATOL at 1200 metres, clocking a sound 1:12.3 for the distance.
The speedy five-year-old gelding won with more in the tank and looks hard to oppose in the five-horse field.
BULLET TRAIN's stablemate, SKYWAY EXPRESS, steps up in class and lacks the speed to win the event. NASATOL was well held by BULLET TRAIN, a length and a half third, last time out, and won't catch DaCosta's runner on the straight course.
Top-weight MEDICAL REPORT, who racked up five wins between February and May, seems to have gone sour, putting in a dismal run at 1300 metres in the September 3 Eileen Cliggott trophy, and can't be fancied with 59.5 kilos.
Anthony Nunes' MUCHO GUSTO has trained well, 59.3 from the gate, but will have to run a cracker to beat the sprinters, considering he has been leaving the gate slowly in his last two races.
Track Price Plus Pick-6 players stand a sound chance of striking it rich tomorrow by using BULLET TRAIN along with ALSAFRA, GOOD SENSE, BRUCEONTHELOOSE, STAR OF THE SEA and IMAGE DANCER.
Triple Crown-winning filly ALSAFRA should notch her fifth straight win when she faces open allowance runners at 1500 metres in the opening event.
Extremely sharp
Freshened nicely by trainer Fitznahum Williams after her July 12 St Leger win, ALSAFRA looked extremely sharp, zipping 1:13.2 at exercise last Saturday morning. Completing last five furlongs in 1:00.3.
Her mid-race pace should again prove crippling for rivals in what is clearly the start of her Superstakes build-up.
GOOD SENSE has improved under trainer Lawrence Freemantle and won't be caught in the third at 1100 metres, after being worn down by THE SMOKER at 1300 metres on September 10.
Philip Feanny's two-year-old debutant, BRUCEONTHELOOSE, has been ripping the exercise track to shreds and won't be beaten in the fourth at 1000 metres round.
STAR OF THE SEA is also a banker in the fifth at 1500 metres after her fast-finishing second to MINISTEROFJUSTICE at a mile.
Dwight Chen's IMAGE DANCER is fancied to land the eighth over 1800 metres. After disputing fast splits on September 13, Chen's runner fell victim to SPACEMAN, who reproduced his exercise workouts alongside stablemate AD INFINITUM to win by four lengths at 1500 metres.
