nathaniel stewart: SLRThey are three young ladies who are known in the Digicel Rising Stars competition for their tight harmonies and fighting spirit. The group SLR, which includes Annashare Blake, Latoya Colman and Roshauna Dennis, is hoping to put smiles on the faces of students at the Kendal Basic School in Hanover. Through the NCB Foundation/Digicel Rising Stars Community Development Project, their dreams will be realised with the provision of some well-needed upgrades at the school.
What is the charity?
SLR: We're painting a pedestrian crossing for the students and we're giving a stove to the school because the one they had before was stolen. We're also giving them urinals because their toilets aren't in very good condition. Also, the bathroom sinks are broken down, so we will be replacing those in addition to donating two computers to the school - one for administrative purposes, so that the teachers can store files, and one for the children.
Why did you choose that charity?
SLR: We were searching for a project and we decided on this basic school because we thought that they needed the resources. Latoya and I (Roshauna) went to that basic school, so we decided to help them because they need a safe environment, and the children are not that comfortable. The school's system needs to be upgraded so we've just decided to assist with that.
How do you expect this to impact those in the community?
SLR: We're hoping that the people in the community will see that we're happy to give back to the school we went to. We want the children to be comfortable because they need to be comfortable in the school environment, especially at such a young age.
