Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker and councillor, Lennox Hinds, has been charged with murder.
Hinds, who unsuccessfully ran in the Local Government Elections last December, was charged last Friday by members of the Major Investigation Task Force after being in custody since last Tuesday.
He was also slapped with additional charges of conspiracy to murder and shooting with intent, stemming from the August 15, 2007 murder of Oral Livermore.
Reports are that People's National Party supporters were accused of removing JLP posters and flags mounted in Portsmouth, Portmore, St Catherine as the General Elections drew near.
Livermore, a resident of the community, and two other persons were reportedly shot and injured, as they stood at a corner, by armed men travelling in a motor car.
The injured persons were taken to hospital where Livermore was pronounced dead.
The police are accusing Hinds of hiring men to carry out the attack.
