Fires destroy houses

The incident involving an elderly couple who perished in a fire, which engulfed their home, was one of at least three 'fiery' reports last Saturday.

Seventy-year-old Louis Bryan and his wife Betty, 60, died after fire destroyed their 15-apartment house at Clarendon Park, Four Paths in Clarendon.

Reports are that about 11 p.m., residents alerted the police and fire brigade, after seeing smoke coming from the apartment.

One unit from the May Pen Fire Department extinguished the blaze after which the charred remains of the couple were found.

The Constabulary Communi-cation Network reported that investigators have theorised the incident to be a case of arson.

In another instance, residents of Comfort Hall district in Manchester, alerted the fire brigade about 10:45 p.m., after seeing smoke coming from a 14-apartment house in the community.

The Mandeville Fire Brigade managed to put out the blaze. No one was injured.

At Walkers Crescent in Kingston 11, fire also destroyed a three-bedroom dwelling.

According to reports, about 11:30 p.m., the occupants of the house heard strange sounds and subsequently found that the house was on fire.

The police and the fire brigade were alerted and a unit from the Half-Way Tree Fire Department doused the blaze.

No one was injured in that incident.
