The saying cock mouth kill cock has lately been epitomised through the disastrous interviews of the governor of Alaska, John McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.
Though a new comer to Washington, she has made valuable contributions to her state and was chosen to be the vice-president on the Republican ticket because of her charisma, fervour and the hope that she would sway independent female voters since Hillary was no longer in the running.
Mi know dis a go blow ova some people head but for those who are CNN and C-Span junkies like myself, talk about her gender has been a hot topic. Some say that Palin has brought pain to the Republican campaign because of her downward spiral and lack of coherency, which she has exhibited in past weeks.
Judged on her competence
Because she is female, I don't agree that she should be supported on that basis but should instead be judged on her competence. I will concede that male chauvinism's and sexism do exist, but I say in this case that these are definitely not applicable. It has less to do with the men and everything to do with her.
Nuff people love fi talk bout 'a ooman time now' but the focus should be on whether a person can manage to do the job as opposed to who have on panty and who have on brief.
The fact is that being the executor of a state is different from being the vice-president of the USA. These are two different and separate arenas, and though her experience in running Alaska maybe credible, this does not translate into her being ready for the world stage.
Hilarious and appalling
During an interview she had with CBS anchor Katie Couric, her abysmal attempt to explain her foreign policy capabilities was both hilarious and appalling. And, if that wasn't enough damage, when pressed about which newspapers and magazines she read fi get her world views she couldn't even give one - a better she did seh The Star or mek up someting pon de spot.
She claimed she read everything dem put in front of her, so mi waan fi kno if she nuh look pon de front page wha carry de name of de paper. This is jus further testimony seh Sarah nuh have a clue.
In discussions I've had, some a seh fi gi her a chance and seh she will learn while on the job. My apprehension with that point of view though is that when one is poised to take over an office as important as the one she is vying for, yuh can't come learn pon de job, yuh affi come ready mek or close to because wi nuh have nuh time fi de lingering now.
I believe that a woman can do any job as good as a man or even better, as even the one we are not anatomically blessed to do, we tun wi hand and finger inna fashion. But the state of the economy and world happenings call for more than just beauty and likeability.
His shortcomings too
Some have said Barack Obama has his shortcomings too (even though mi can't see it cause him bright and him body good), as not being versed in foreign policy. Though that maybe so, he made the prudent decision to make Joe Biden his running mate, who has vast experience and knowledge in the foreign policy arena.
During the vice-presidential debate, when him start talk bout Bosnia, Kosovo and Darfur, Sarah a look like she a wonda a which part dat and wha him a talk bout.
Notwithstanding, I'm quite aware that on November 4 the polls can go either way, cause everybody kno how politics go and especially fi dem type a 'politics'.
I hope, though, whatever the outcome, foreign can start build back because a nuff people an dem family a feel de pinch. A nuff people affi all a send money from Jamaica go a foreign and when it reach deh so, yuh know it deep.
Mi just waan de best person fi win so dem can start free up some hard-working people so wi can rich and happy cause we waan money fi spend and yuh done know everybody affi live.
Barack Obama to de flippin world!
