There were mixed emotions as Reno said goodbye to St Elizabeth Technical, the venue they have been calling home for the last two years, following a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Boys' Town yesterday in Santa Cruz.
Technical director Wendell Downswell confirmed to The Star that Reno would now return to Frome for home games, starting with the October 19 game against Harbour View. Expectations of a win might have been hindered by the makeshift forward line comprising regular midfielder O'Brien Woodbine and Gary McIntosh, Boys' Town's unbeaten status and Reno's own inauspicious start, but the fans turned up and cheered them all the way.
Fittingly, Reno's bright first-half performance was capped by the conversion of a magnificent free kick by captain Nicholy Findlayson in the 29th minute. The 1-0 break at half-time was short-lived as the gutsy Boys' Town team equalised through Peter Keys in the 57th minute.
Both teams got opportunities which could have tilted the balance towards a victory but none more so than those missed by Woodbine midway through the second half, and perhaps most costly, the last-minute dribble by substitute Troy Reid which resulted in a final strike by Downswell's own son, Renario. In the end, Reno were disappointed victory was not achieved but still happy that they left a positive lasting memory that their fortunes could improve when they make the shift to Frome.
Andrew Price lamented strategic mistakes from his outfit which he maintained will be among those competing for championship honours.
