St James need only a point

St James High School climbed to within a point of capturing one of the two inter-zone places from Zone A of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup yesterday afternoon when they clobbered Maldon High 3-0 in their top-of-the-table clash at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.

By virtue of their win, the Pastor Hugh Solomon-coached St James aggregation now lead the group with 23 points while Maldon stay second with 18 points. Cornwall College, who had their game against Irwin High rescheduled for this afternoon, are in third place on 14 points. However, while they have four outstanding games, Maldon have only two.

"Technically, I would say we are in the inter-zone because while both Cornwall College and Maldon could catch us on 23 points, only one of them can overtake us," said Pastor Solomon. Solomon added that St James' goal difference is now far superior to both teams.

In a game St James dominated but squandered numerous chances, they got their goals through striker Nicholi Barrett (two) and a defender. Skipper Fabian McHarty also missed a penalty.
