Deva Bratt - file
Deejay Deva Bratt is out of jail and happy to be back in the music business. The artiste was released from the Greater Portmore Police Station last Friday and will next appear in court on November 20.
In February this year, Deva Bratt, real name Sheldon Smith, was taken into custody in connection with an alleged case of carnal abuse committed against a 14-year-old girl. He was picked up by police from his home in Westchester, Portmore. After he was offered bail, for this incident, the deejay was accused of raping another girl. He was again taken into custody and the two cases are still before the court.
Learning process
Since his release, Bratt says that he has been taking it easy, chilling with family and friends.
"I feel wonderful, it was a learning process and I'm all positive right now, I still have my joy, I'm glad to be out" he told The STAR.
While Bratt hasn't been back in the studiosince his release, he plans to return to the airwaves soon and plans to work with producers Arif Cooper, Cordell 'Scatta' Burrell, Young Veterans and In Di Streets.
"Musically, I plan to give di people what they need, to have fun and happiness, trying to do dat at di moment and have dat joy," Bratt said.
According to Bratt, fellow artistes Ninja Man, Cobra, Frisco Kid, Scratchy B and others have been offering their support. While he says he cannot predict the response from the general public to his release, he expects that persons can appreciate good music regardless of the person behind it.
Flattering comments
Bratt, who is a former member of the Portmore Empire, had less than flattering comments about the Empire's head Vybz Kartel.
Bratt stated after his first release from jail that," ... A hear mi hear Kartel a seh mi not in (Portmore) Empire, but mi neva tek dat serious, cause me a think how mi fi get kick out a Empire when I am Empire? Is me start Empire years ago. Yes Kartel buss di ting bigger, but how yuh fi go behind di founder back an register company in your name one?"
When asked whether he would be attempting to re-enlist with the Portmore Empire or possibly the Bounty Killer-led 'Alliance', he told The STAR, "I'm just doing my music, that's what I'm focused on. On Deva Bratt. There is a name I have already for me and my crew or entourage, but I'm not ready to disclose that."
