Andrew Pryce, the man accused of selling goods belonging to others to a business man in downtown Kingston, will have to wait until next Friday to have his case mentioned again.
Pryce appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to answer to a charge of larceny by trick.
Allegations are that Pryce went to the complainant and sold him a quantity of rice and cooking oil amounting to $69,000 and also charged him an additional $1,000 for delivery. The complainant allegedly paid for the goods
the accused told him that he would return in a few days with the bill. However, the accused never returned and other persons came with receipts claiming the items, which were handed over to the police.
When the matter was last mentioned, Pryce told the court that he had made contact with his family and would have the money for the next court date.
Family refused
But when he appeared Tuesday, he told Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that his family refused to pay for his transgressions this time and told him to work and pay for it. He pleaded guilty with explanation.
RM Brown, who was obviously familiar with the accused and his shenanigans, told him,"You give too much trouble, Mr Pryce." The accused also revealed that he had written a letter to RM Brown, in which he expressed his willingness to attend counselling.
On the last occasion, RM Brown recalled one of Pryce's cases where he reportedly went to Jade Gardens restaurant and ordered food for himself and his friends. He also ordered additional food for more people who were to come.
RM Brown said it was only when the management of the restaurant told him he had to pay for the food he had already before they prepared anymore that they discovered he had no money.
RM Brown said Pryce had appeared before him before for renting a house that did not belong to him. In light of this, he was reluctant to believe that the accused would be able to repay the money. He is to return to court on November 7.
