'Importer' clears bail

Victor Hue Sang, a man accused of collecting over $700,000 under the pretence that he could clear a motor vehicle from the wharf, was granted bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Tuesday.

Hue Sang appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown to answer to charges of fraudulent conversion.

The court was told that the complainant entrusted him with $784,000 to clear a truck from the wharf.

It is alleged that Hue Sang used the money for his own purposes as the vehicle was not cleared nor was the money returned. Hue Sang reportedly told the police that he was a customs clerk.

The prosecution told the court that they were opposed to bail as they believed that Hue Sang would not make himself available.

They also pointed out that he had eluded the police on two occasions.

RM Brown, however, decided to grant Hue Sang $300,000 bail with surety and set the matter to be mentioned again on December 15.
