Judge cuts student free

A student of the Holy Trinity high school, who was held with a knife, was admonished and discharged with a stern warning when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The third-form student told the court that he had borrowed the knife from a friend to peel oranges and June plums.

However, when his mother was called before the court, she said he told her that he had found the knife.

He could not give Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown an explanation as to why he lied about how he came to have the knife. RM Brown warned the accused before letting him go. "Don't tell me a lie again .... stay out of trouble. Do not walk with knife and do not take drugs," he warned the accused.

He was then allowed to leave with his mother.
