Show tunes grace the stage

With only seven schools left in the 'All Together Sing' competition, the choirs took to the stage with their favourite show tunes. This week's judges were Dennis Rushton, Lileth Sewell and guest judge Peter Ashbourne.

Albert Town High seemed to be the weakest choir entering this week's sing-off; as usual, Oberlin High were expected to shine. However, it was Rusea's High that took it to the world.

American pronunciation

The first choir to grace the stage was Mona High, which appeared to have the most members. The singers performed Breaking Free from the movie High School Musical. Ashbourne remarked that given the size of the choir, he had anticipated a more powerful delivery. Sewell pointed to the choir's choice to sing with North American intonation and advised the singers not to do so. Rushton believed the choir deserved to be in the top three.

Merl Grove High was the second choir to perform, however, its performance was far from secon-dary. The choir did Shadow Land from the movie Lion King, the singing almost brought Rushton to tears. He said the choir performed with class. Sewell stated that Merl Grove had a "fantastic instrumental sound". Ashbourne remarked: "Balance is important; the choir had a good, balanced sound."

As expected, Oberlin High once more made an excellent choice. Ashbourne commended the choir for its rendition of a medley from the movie Grease.Sewell said the interaction was good, but the movement was distracting. Rushton said: "It's Oberlin, duh! The female vocalist delivered and the diction was excellent."

Life and vitality

Performing All For One from High School Musical, Clarendon College gave a vibrant preformance. Rushton thought that the singing was powerful. Sewell said, "You had life and vitality." Ashbourne believed "it was nice to have an ensemble performance, very nice and enthusiastic".

Trying to bring some creativity to the competition, Manchester High performed an original, The Question. Ashbourne commented, "It was a good idea, sort of. Anyway, your audience will decide that." Sewell said the idea was a very creative; however, transitions were awkward. Rushton had one question, "You took that from a movie yet to be released, Man-chester High, will you be able to manipulate the voting public?"

A comeback

Albert Town High, seemingly the weakest choir, made a comeback with its Fame medley. Rushton said, "You have improved a lot over the past two weeks." Sewell thought the performance was full of vitality, however, diction needed to be improved. Ashbourne said, "There were inaccuracies; however, there was a lot of energy in the performance."

The last choir to perform was Rusea's High, which performed Moving On Up. Rusea's was definitely moving on up with its performance. Ashbourne said, "Of all the performances, this was the one that felt the best; a very great lead singer." Sewell also praised the performance saying, "You have moved on up; a very, very good performance." For Rushton, it was a truly entertaining performance.
