Barbadian tops Carib drivers' champs, Jamaica's Summerbell second

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC

Barbadian Stuart Maloney uncorked fabulous wins in two of three races Sunday and sped to the Drivers' Champion-ship title as the Caribbean Motor Racing Series concluded at the South Dakota Circuit.

Maloney, who started the day on 30 points, five behind his father Doug, was in irrepressible form as he stormed to victory in the first two races, before placing fifth in the final race of the day.

He compiled a finishing total of 54 points, four ahead of Jamaican David Summerbell.

Summerbell chased Maloney all day to finish on 50 points after registering a first, second and third-place finish to help Jamaica emerge as team champions.

Doug Maloney, who led the standings at the start of the day, closed on a disappointing 44 points.

Andrew King, the lone Guya-nese in with a chance of challenging the top three, was below par at the season-ending meet and added a mere three points to his pre-meet position in the points column, ending on 26 points.

Jamaica finished at the top of the table for countries with a total of 137 points and they were followed by Barbados on 124 and Guyana in the cellar on 46.
