A section of the Mona Road which is being repaired after the road was dug up by the National Water Commission. - Ian Allen
AS PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE WEEKEND STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our Reporter Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. We will then have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.
Finally! We are pleased to announce that Mona Road is currently being resurfaced. What a joy it will be to have an alternative to Munroe Road's traffic.
Months ago, the National Water Commission (NWC) hired a contractor to lay sewer mains, laterals (pipes leading from the main to the customer) and manholes along Mona Road from near the US Embassy to the Munroe Road intersection. Twice, we have been given a deadline for work completion by NWC's Corporate Public Relations Manager, Charles Buchanan. Both those deadlines expired without the road looking any closer to completion.
However, victory for the motorists has come at last. Though there is still a detour sign up, routing traffic on to Munroe Road, this can be overlooked. This detour clears the road for asphalting, a long overdue process. We now hope that the road will be resurfaced properly so Mona Road does not appear in this column for at least a year.
