A teacher who pleaded guilty to stealing $10,000 from her co-worker's handbag was sternly reprimanded when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
She will know her fate on December 15.
Tasty Shaw appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown to answer to a charge of simple larceny.
The facts are that on the day in question, the complainant asked Shaw to hold her handbag. When she returned, she discovered that an envelope with $10,000 was missing. A report was made and Shaw was arrested and charged.
When she appeared before RM Brown, Shaw told the court that she took the envelope because one of her relatives was facing some problems and needed the money.
After hearing the facts, RM Brown asked, "Why would you do such a stupid thing? Now, you no longer have a job and you won't be able to work as a teacher any more. Teachers are supposed to correct the students."
RM Brown also requested a probation report on Shaw and set the case for sentencing on December 15.
