Dr Julian Hunte, president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is heading a three-man team, appointed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to examine certain aspects of the management, administration and development of cricket in Zimbabwe.

Other members of the Zimbabwe Task Team are Haroon Lorgat, chief executive officer of the ICC and Arjuna Ranatunga, chief of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Dr Hunte says the visit to Zimbabwe which started yesterday is the first fact-finding phase for the task team. It will allow them, says Dr Hunte, to meet with a wide range of cricket stakeholders in Zimbabwe and to view facilities first-hand. Once the visit has been completed, the information gathered will be reviewed by the team and relevant recommendations will be made to the ICC executive board.

Fact-finding mission

The terms of reference of the team include carrying out a fact-finding mission to Zimbabwe to establish the current state of affairs as it relates to the management and development of cricket; conducting an assessment of the policies and programmes executed to date to restore Zimbabwe to Test cricket; carrying out a detailed inspection of the cricket administration, facilities, resources and capabilities in Zimbabwe, such inspection to include all areas contained in the Full Member Guidelines; and making recommendations to the ICC executive board for constructive strategies and initiatives which will assist Zimbabwe to improve its cricket in all respects and to ultimately aid its return to Test cricket within two years.

The recommendations of the team are to be submitted to the ICC executive board at its January 2009 meeting.
