Raga recovering after bathroom accident

Kimoni Harris, Staff Reporter

Dr Kingsley 'Ragashanti' Stewart - file

Talk-show host Kingsley 'Ragashanti' Stewart is now recovering from a broken wrist after he fell in an hotel bathroom last Thursday.

Stewart, who broke his wrist in several places, told THE STAR how the accident occurred.

"I was staying at a hotel in St Ann and was preparing for an outside broadcast by taking a shower. While in the shower, I realised that it had a cap on the shower which kept falling off. So each time I was watching the cap so as to prevent it from dropping in my head. As I was there getting comfortable, I realised that the cap was going to drop on my head, so I moved in order to avoid it. It was while doing this that I slipped and fell across the bath," he said.

Stewart, who weighs 245lb, said that he could not believe what happened.

"Half of my body was inside the shower and the other half was outside the bath with all my weight resting on my left wrist, which at that time was hurting real bad."

After being in that uncomfortable position for a while, he had to think how he could get to the hospital. Jokingly he said: "I had to think fast as I did not want any hotel staff to see me naked and then I would end up in THE STAR ... or some other paper."

Trip to hospital

After some quick thinking and moments of excruciating pain, he said he managed to put on some underwear and called his producer, who took him to the St Ann's Bay Hospital.

He has been back on air since Tuesday, but is still in pain as he has pins, plates and wires in his wrist. He had surgery on Saturday at the Tony Thwaites wing of the University of the West Indies Hospital.

In the meantime, he urged persons to be very careful in their bathrooms, as it is a place where you become complacent, but it can be very dangerous. Stewart assessed the situation, saying that it could have been worse, and he was looking forward to his healing.
