Two weapons were taken off the streets of St Catherine in
separate incidents on Tuesday.
The Portmore police arrested and charged a 21-year-old construction worker in connection with the seizure of one of the weapons. The illegal firearm was found in the house he occupied at Hillsdown Drive, Caymanas Gardens, St Catherine.
Charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition is Leighton Barnaby.
Reports are that at 5 p.m., the Portmore police carried out an operation in sections of Caymanas Gardens. During the exercise, a house occupied by Barnaby was searched and the weapon, a Smith and Wesson revolver, serial number 4D96948, with six .38 cartridges was found. He was subsequently arrested and charged and is booked to appear before the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Over in the St Catherine South Division, a 40-year-old higgler, Leroy Brailesford, otherwise called 'Gold Teeth', of Old Harbour Road, Spanish Town, was charged with breaches of the Firearms Act after an illegal gun was found in his possession.
He is facing charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and shooting with intent.
Reports are that at 6:20 p.m., two policemen from the Old Harbour Police Station were on assignment in the Church Pen Housing Scheme, when two men were seen. On the approach of the police, the men reportedly pulled guns and opened fire. The fire was returned and the men ran.
Brailesford was later held and a .38 Special Rossi revolver, serial number 249451, with two .38
cartridges and three spent shells found in his possession. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
