The McGregor clan. Ian Allen
When asked about his children's involvement in music, STAR of the month Freddie McGregor will proudly say that his children-Shema, Chino and Stephen-were all naturals in music since they were young.
"From early childhood you see di music in dem, Chino was always like the driving force behind Stephen, they were always in the living room doing concerts with a mop on their heads as 'dreads'. They were singing Dennis Brown, who was always a favourite of Chino's, and the fact that Stephen always sang with such a perfect pitch was always amazing," McGregor said.
Serious about music
When the senior McGregor built his home studio Big Ship, Stephen he said, was always in and out of the studio studying the consoles and working with the instruments. It was when the young producer bought himself a guitar and started building rhythms for his dad to hear that McGregor realised his son was serious about music.
Amazing
However, the veteran reggae singer said it was his son Chino's interest in music that really surprised him as he had never shown such a seriousness about music before hooking up with Kip Rich for the song Leggo Di Boy. "As a deejay Chino is wicked and his writing is amazing. I love his lyrical content and structure; he's one of the most talented deejays around," he told THE STAR.
As for his daughter Shema, McGregor says he had always known she was talented since her days at music school. He describes her voice as "amazing", He has listened to her new songs produced by Stephen, and says they are "pure magic."
