Monday Star's lead story, 'Thugs steal dead man's ashes', was heartbreaking, to say the least.
To cut a long story short, a returning resident came back to Jamaica some years ago, was robbed and went back to England vowing never to return to the island. However, the gentleman had a change of heart before he died and requested that he be cremated and his ashes scattered at a specific location in Jamaica.
This did not happen. Demented criminals held up his family and burglarised their home, stealing several items, including the ashes of the deceased, which were in an urn! Yes, they actually robbed the dead.
Emotional stress
How sick can we get? Although there were not any reports of any other family member being harmed, just imagine the emotional stress they now have to live with. The psychological burden they are now under, knowing that they were not able to grant their beloved relative's last wish because of heartless thugs, is unimaginable. Our hearts go out to the family.
We were also told in the story that despite the daughter of the deceased man making a public appeal on the radio for the ashes to be returned or left at a location for her to pick up, nothing happened.
It may sound a bit insane, but we are sure the spirit of the deceased is vowing to never visit Jamaica, ever, after this second robbery.
It is just depressing to know that we have got to the stage where not even the dead are safe.
