Accused HIV- positive man held in custody

A man whose sister claimed he made several threats on her life was remanded after she and another brother made a heartfelt appeal to Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown.

The accused appeared in the Corporate Area Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to answer to a charge of malicious destruction of property.

The court was told that the accused destroyed a chair belonging to the complainant. She however said the issue ran much deeper and said her brother told her on several occassions that he wanted to kill her. She said, " Your honour, im seh im a go kill mi. Im seh im a walking dead an him nuh have nuttin fi live fah." It was later revealed that the accused man was HIV-positive.

The complainant told the court that just last week, he chased her around with house with a knife and explained that her chair was damaged because the accused threw several stones at the house recently.

Her brother, who was called in to corroborate her story, told RM Brown that he was fearful for his sister's life. He said, " Your honour, im is in di right place now. If you let him out, I going have to go to her funeral."

The complainant also told the court that she and the accused shared the same house, a property that was willed to them by their father. She said she would find it difficult to move since she was the one caring for their ailing mother who also lives at the house.

The accused however told the court, "I love my sister your honour, but she jus have a hate fi mi. I don't know why."

After hearing these allegations, RM Brown decided to keep the accused in custody.

The matter is to return to court on December 4.
