Dancehall artiste Konshens.
With his song 'Winner' getting favourable airplay, a very determined Garfield Spence, whose stage name is Konshens, is hoping for greater things in the future.
"I am just looking to do what I love, and to make the most of it." Spence told The STAR.
Spence, who graduated from Excelsior High School with eight CXC passes, chose a career in music despite being accepted to attend teachers' college.
"The same time I got accepted for teachers' college I went on a musical tour of Japan, and that was the end of my teaching
ambitions," he said.
The artiste, who entered music in 2005, also collaborated on his breakthrough single Pon Di Corner with his older brother Delmark. The single was produced on the Cash Flow Label.
With a passion for music and the determination for success, Spence has recently shot a video for his new single, Ghetto Anthem, which was recorded on the Jungle Lion Rhythm. The single was co-produced by Gareth Coban.
Goal in sight
He told The STAR that despite the controversy surrounding Winner, he never lost sight of his goal in music.
"Right now, I'm just focusing on the tour I have in December with my brother, across Europe."
"I never felt I would give up. Each obstacle is another lesson and how you address them will determine the outcome. Take each and dig the positive out of it and move on."
Controversy
Spence, who has also recorded This Means Money and Rasta Impostor, was at the centre of a controversy about the lyrical content of the songand rumours swirled that the song had been banned from radio.
"Well, not everyone looks at things from the same angle, and is just a part of the whole thing that," he said in reference to the rumours.
"As far as the ban is concerned, they were just rumours, the song was not banned. This, however, did good and bad, as it promoted the song."
He is working to release his debut album early next year.
