A man accused of assaulting his wife at the Harbour View Police Station, east Kingston, was yesterday ordered to return to court on December 4 at which time a verdict will be decided in the case.
The matter was put off until that date, to allow time for both the accused and the complainant to verify the true total of a medical bill, which was accrued as a result of the matter.
The complainant, Hyacinth Mattison, told the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court that her husband, Donald, came to her workplace, the Harbour View Police Station, and grabbed her in the chest and hit her in the face. She continued that as a result of the injuries sustained she has had to undergo surgery on one of her eyes, to the tune of $245,000.
Donald, however, told the court that he did not intentionally hit his wife, but was merely defending himself against an attack. The accused man told the court that he and his wife got into an argument during which she attempted to hit him with an iron chair. He continued that in defending himself he happened to have hit her in the face.
The accused told the court that he would, nonetheless, withstand the cost for the surgery his wife underwent given that he was presented with an authentic receipt.
