VENDOR BEATS 'MATIE' IN MARKET - Conflict began after she walked in on sex act

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

The Princess market in Spanish Town, St Catherine, was the scene of commotion last week when a female vendor was beaten by the common-law wife of a man with whom she was caught having sex.

The market, situated along Cumberland Road, was temporarily turned into a flogging ground by the upset market woman who decided to teach her man's 'matie' a lesson.

Vendor been trashed

After there were shouts for, "help, help", persons rushed to a section of the market to find the vendor being trashed by the man's 'wife'.

Investigations by The Star revealed that about 11 a.m., the 'wife', who sells quite close to the other woman, was in the market when she heard strange sounds coming from the bathroom. When checks were made, she saw her boyfriend in a compromising position with the other woman, who was sweating profusely. It was then that she started to deliver her form of punishment until other persons stepped in to put an end to the dispute.

"I can't believe inna the boiling sun, dem people a gwaan so bad inna the market. Them body really hot," remarked one vendor while others laughed at the incident.

While a formal report was not made to the Spanish Town police, when they were contacted by THE STAR, a policeman said that they had been informed of the incident.
