The union and the commitment

There is often an adage that many of us ignore but have proven to be true. It is, 'be sure your sins will find you out'.

In THE WEEKEND STAR the story was reported about a pastor who was having extramarital affairs. The pastor, who the article describes as being very influential, was taped and now he is worried about what next he should do.

It always comes to light

This situation is not foreign to Jamaica. Many men and women have cheated on their partners, and while some take longer to find out, the underlying thing is that it always comes to light.

Infidelity in the marriage has resulted in quite a number of them ending in divorce. There seems to be falling respect for the union and the commitment people made to each other.

A recent article in The Sunday Gleaner reported that in the last few years, half of the divorces filed for in our courts were by people below 25 years old. Clearly something is very wrong and people maybe are rushing into things before they are ready or committed to them.

The situation is so bad that it begs the question, are people getting married even though they are not prepared or ready for the commitment? Are they in love with their partners or with the idea of having a wedding?

Whatever the reason, people need to be more committed to these contracts that they enter into. Marriage is a consecrated union and it should be respected. If you cannot be committed to do it, do not do it.
