Grow up, thieves!

Last Saturday's STAR lead story is unbelievable, even hilarious. Thieves robbing baby cereal? It is hard to think of what they will steal next.

The story spoke of thugs robbing houses in Portmore, St Catherine, and, before making off with the stolen items, helping themselves to servings of baby cereal. While it may be funny, it also strikes a regrettable note as it shows how brazen criminals have become.

Legal right

These hoodlums must believe that it is their legal right to invade people's houses and hang around long enough to have a snack at the expense of the family. Do they believe they will never be caught? Or do they believe the police force is a joke? Well, hats off to the police, they caught one of the crooks in Portmore Pines, according to the story. He was helping himself to some baby cereal when the lawmen showed up.

You know, a previous situation existed in Greater Portmore where thieves allegedly sprinkled sleep-inducing powder in the houses of residents and robbed them while they slept. Yes, at least one resident made a report to the police after he was 'put to sleep' and robbed.

Please be on the lookout. Stop taking chances by leaving your keys under stones or your doors and windows open. These criminals are very crafty. Take all the foolproof steps you can to protect your family, property and yourself during this Christmas season.
