A section of the Mona Road which is being repaired after being dug up by the National Water Commission. - Ian Allen
AS PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE WEEKEND STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our Reporter Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. We will then have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.
We are elated that some serious restoration work is finally being done on Mona Road, Kingston 7. About six weeks ago, (almost two months now), the National Water Commission (NWC) told us that the road would have been "back to normal in a few weeks".
Dusty and full of rubble
During the summer, the NWC had hired a contractor to lay sewer mains, laterals (pipes leading from the main the customer) and manholes along Mona Road near the US Embassy to Munroe Road.
The work was completed in October, but the road remained damaged at points and was very dusty and full of rubble.
Finally, however, it seems some proper work is being done to reinstate the road. We hope the work done is, indeed, proper.
Still with the NWC, we understand that the mini river on Spanish Town Road, near to Six Miles, is being addressed.
