Former police constable Raymond Campbell, who is charged with the murder of his wife, is to face the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court next week to answer to the charges.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Les Green, who heads the Serious and Organised Crime Bureau told THE STAR earlier this week that Campbell would face the court at a date to be decided on.
He also said should Campbell's lawyers apply for his bail next week, the police would certainly oppose it. ACP Green declined to give a reason, however. "I can't go into the details, as that is something we would raise with the court," he said.
"Arrangements are being made for Raymond Campbell to face court, but we are still working alongside the Director of Public Prose-cution for a date to be determined," said ACP Green.
Campbell is being held at a police lock-up in Kingston, but ACP Green said he would face court in St James because the crime was committed in that parish.
burnt remains were discovered
Following a 16-month long intensive investigation, Campbell, formerly attached to the St James Police Division, was charged with the murder of his wife Kerry-Ann Brown-Campbell, on Friday, November 28. Mrs Brown-Campbell, 28, went missing and her burnt remains were discovered in bushes in Belmont, St James, one month after she got married to Campbell.
The cop is facing charges of murder and conspiracy to murder his wife, as investigators believe he arranged with other persons to kill her.
Last week, ACP Green said there were other persons who the police believe were involved in the murder, adding that the police were interviewing a number of persons whom they believe could assist them in the matter.
But yesterday when The Star asked ACP Green how that aspect of the case was progressing, he replied: "No one else has been charged and there is no other person being held in custody in connection with the matter."
