Bad service

Just when we thought that prostitutes could not become any more brazen, they have left us in awe yet again.

According to an article in last Friday's edition of THE WEEKEND STAR, prostitutes have found a new way to advertise the services they offer by visiting houses in sections of Montego Bay, St James, a move the police suspect to be a result of difficult economic times.

This is by no way a hilarious situation.

In reality, we cannot all be lawyers and doctors, but to sell oneself is totally unacceptable.

If a prostitute can think hard enough to find another way to market herself, that same prostitute can devise some other way to become helpful to society without selling sexual favours.

A creative mind can be an effective tool in trying to survive in a competitive society, so why not put it to some good use?

Of course, the issue of sexually transmitted infections is always lingering and one would wonder why these women put themselves at such risk just for a few dollars.

This is just a clear indication that these women see no other way out and such a situation is plain depressing.

By some way or another, these women need to be shown by the wider society that they need not involve themselves in the degrading act of prostitution.

After all, they are the mothers of our nation's children - our future.
