Last week Thursday, the Rootz Foundation continued its support for the Haile Selassie High School with another donation.

The donation of US$1,100 was made by Dr Michael Barnett of Rootz Foundation to Claney Barnett, principal of Haile Selassie High, at an early morning assembly.

The money was collected by US-based members of Rootz Foundation through a media appeal. The donation comes after a September contribution of $100,000. That money was raised from the Haile Selassie Earthday Celebration Charity Concert held at the Livity Restaurant in New Kingston.

Love for education

Barnett told the audience: "In general, we, the Rastafarian community in Jamaica have great love for education and this school, for undoubtedly this is one of the greatest legacies His Majesty left."

He encouraged the students, saying: "I am going to implore every one of you students to focus on your studies as much as possible, despite the problems you may face. Education is one of the ways we develop ourselves."

"I want everybody to concentrate on your studies and feel good as a student of Haile Selassie. This is a very special high school," Barnett said.

Principal Claney Barnett thanked Rootz Foundation and explained that the initial donation was used to help four students in furthering their education at the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts and Excelsior Community College. She promised financial and progress reports.

"You can share with these persons that their hard-earned cash is not going in vain," she said.
