LEADERS Harbour View last night sent a resounding message to third-place St Georges, a big 5-0 Digicel Premier League whipping at Compound, to register their first victory over the second-season team from Portland.
Kavin Bryan led the rout with a double, netting in the ninth and 58th minutes, supported by strikes from Dicoy Williams in the 47th, Marcelino Blackburn three minutes later and Lovel Palmer putting the icing on the cake two minutes from time.
Harbour View, now on 29 points, were twice beaten by St Georges last season and their other two meetings ended in draws.
Two points clear
The leaders' big home win kept them two points clear of Tivoli, who blanked Reno 2-0 at the Edward Seaga Stadium, getting goals from substitute Jermaine Gray in the 78th and 90th minutes.
St Georges were the only loser among the top six teams as victories by Boys' Town and defending champions Portmore pushed them down to fifth in the table on goal difference, remaining on 22 points.
Boys' Town beat Village United 3-0 at Collie Smith Drive to go third with 24 points, getting their goals from George Vernal in the 21st followed by a Denzil Watson double, 56th and 82nd.
Portmore edged Arnett Gardens 1-0 on a Roen Nelson goal at Ferdie Neita Park, to share 22 points with St Georges but have a better goal average, handing them fourth spot.
Waterhouse stayed sixth, blanking Rivoli United 3-0 at Drewsland, pushing the promoted team down to last spot.
Defensive woes
The Drewsland men got goals from Marco McDonald in the 36th, Jonathan Williams in the 70th and substitute Kevin Lamey in the 89th, in a match which saw 20 minutes worth of stoppage for a malfunctioning light tower.
Waterhouse maintained sixth place in mid-table as Rivoli forced just two saves from goalie Richard McCallum.
Waterhouse coach Hugh 'Bingy' Blair, whose team struggled with defensive woes in the first round, said the home win was a good start.
"We need those points, whichever team we play," he said, dismissing queries about the quality of the Rivoli line-up. "We've solved the back line because fewer goals are being scored on us. In the last match, St Georges scored from a corner.
"All we need now is for the front-line men to put the ball in the back of the net," he added.
In the afternoon's sixth game, Meadhaven rallied from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Sporting Central at Brancourt. Alanzo Adlam put Sporting ahead in the 68th, but Meadhaven levelled in the 83rd through Lennox Creary.
