Portmore's tree-lighting ceremony was hosted by the Portmore Municipal Council at the Lions Civic Centre in Edgewater.
The brief ceremony included prayers and greetings by executive bodies within Portmore, including the Portmore Chamber of Commerce and Industries, represented by president Dr Dane Levy, and the Portmore Citizens Advisory Council, represented by Carroll McLean.
Messages came from member of parliament for South East St Catherine Colin Fagan and Senator Arthur Williams.
Entertainment was led by the Portmore Vision Choir and backed by the Jamaica Military Band.
Near the end of the ceremony, Hinds, his wife, Deputy Mayor Owen Saunderson and other dignitaries went over to the Edgewater roundabout where the mayor turned on the lights.
Passers-by soon came over to view and take pictures of Christmas tree.
