Odene Burke is a man on a mission, a mission to become a top-flight entertainer.

The singer, who hails from Above Rocks, St Catherine, just recorded his first solo single titled No More on the Bankz 2 Banx productions label and is currently applying the final touches on another single titled Daggering.

The track No More speaks of the problems faced by the poor, how they are exploited by politicians and the leaders of some organisations. It urges people to boycott elections.

"No more X, poor people don't vote. Boycott di next election. Don't support, liars... yuh fi get sentence a court for robbing the people dem paper note," the song states.

Breakthrough single

The artiste known as Fiyaneer says he strongly feels that No More will be his breakthrough single. "Well, I believe in the song, the words are powerful," he said

Burke started his career in 1997 with a group called Kana Stone.

"Kana Stone was a three-man group, myself, Bescenta and Rockki. All a wi grow together, suh wi just form the group," said Burke.

The group then dissolved as Rockki relocated overseas after the lead artiste in the group, Bescenta, got his break and went solo.

"Yeah, after the lead man in the group get his break that was the end of the group," Burke told The Star. "I am just focusing on being a succesful artiste," he added.

Burke is quick to point out, however, that he is not in the music for the money and the fame at the moment.

"Di money and the fame will come, right now I just have a lot of things I want to say, and I am using the music to channel my voice and make myself heard," Burke said.

Passed away

Fiyaneer says his inspiration to write comes from his father, whom he says is always singing, and his eight-year-old son who died last year.

"From mi a youth a grow, mi si mi father a write songs and a sing. Last year August mi lose mi son, him get sick and passed away. Him did love fi si him father a perform, suh mi just a continue pon da path deh," said the artiste who was a finalist in the 2006 Tastee Talent contest.

Burke is aiming for the highest and wants to be the best at what he does and sees himself crossing over into the mainstream.

"Well, most people think that it's really hard to cross over, but it's not. If the artiste is putting out good music, then the chances of crossing over becomes easier. Do the music that the people want, good music, and it will go far, and that's what I am aiming to do, put out good, positive music," Burke said.

Relax and enjoy

The artiste says he will be using the Christmas season to relax and enjoy some stage shows.

"Anywhere the music is, that's where I will be. Mi just ago use it fi relax, guh some stage shows," he said. "Sting is a must."

Burke spoke openly about his thoughts on the anticipated lyrical clash between Mavado and Vybz Kartel which is expected to take place at Sting, the annual December 26 event at Jamworld in Portmore.

"Lyrical confrontation is always good, as long as it stay da way deh. Mi just want the man dem fi keep the thing peaceful," said Burke.
