Policewoman injured in attack

A policewoman was left to nurse gunshot and knife wounds on Wednesday night after she was robbed of her service pistol and an undetermined sum of money.

The constable, who is attached to the Clarendon Division, was shot and injured at her home in the parish about 8 p.m. after she was pounced upon by two men.

According to police reports, the constable entered her yard and as she exited her vehicle and went to close her gate, she was attacked by one of the men who demanded money.

Further reports are that she pulled her service pistol and fired at the man when his accomplice, who was armed with a knife, attacked her.

A struggle ensued and the constable was shot.

The robbers made off with her .380 Beretta service pistol before the police were alerted and the injured woman taken to hospital where she was admitted in a stable condition.
