Life on thin 'Ice'

Jackass seh de worl' no level. Jackass seh inna dis dead business nuff time a no de people yu woulda more expec' fe drop out get knock.

By now the death of Black Roses crew dancer 'Ice' of Gully Creeper fame is old news. And the death of his fellow 'Roses' and dancer 'Bogle' is even older news. But Jackass cannot help but point out that in this entertainment business it is not the people who, based on their public personality, you would expect to drop out in a bloody manner actually do so.

Gangster in disguise

(Note that Jackass said 'public personality', because he will not swear for any person who may look like a saint onstage and in the media but could really be a gangster in disguise).

Based on their gun lyrics, you would expect that it is certain deejays who would get some bullets if anyone involved in this business of entertainment is going to. But no, it has been two dancers, people who have brought fun and movement (hmm, plus a bag a man a dance together ting) into dancehall, who have ended up on a stretcher in a full body sheet.

Come to think of it, most of the entertainers who have been killed that Jackass knows of have not been the publicly gangster type. Peter Tosh. Early B. Tenor Saw. Black Rat (hey, no bodda wid 'Black Who'. A did deejay too.) King Tubby. Panhead. Garnet Silk.

And look at people like Bounty Killer, Kartel, Ninja Man, Mavado, Cobra and any amount of deejays with tons of gangster lyrics. Not even a scratch.

Bloody end

Now, Jackass is not suggesting for a moment that these are the people who should be killed. Hell no. Nobody should be killed. Hee haw just saying that the expectations raised about lifestyle by certain lyrics have not been reflected in their propensity to a bloody end.

The world is not level at all, is it? So many times it seems that a person is protected from violence by an aura of badness, while those who (publicly, remember) are peaceful get lead poisoning. Forceful lead poisoning.

Bad man face

So does this mean that all and sundry should put on a bad man face onstage and spit out gangster lyrics? Nope. May be it means that people should present themselves as they really are, so that when things happen to them we are not surprised and feel that this violence thing is purely random and we should be lining up for visas and getting out of here as soon as possible.

And Jackass is not talking about the entertainment business here. Jackass feels that there are just so many people around who are parading as angels when they have many connections in hell. So when they are sent packing the bloody way, that is what they were headed to in the first place.

But we who just know the public face do not have a clue.

Jackass seh de worl' no level. Jackass seh life is a ting whe eva deh pon some tin, tin ice.
