A-List Party a success

It was a picture-perfect setting on the Senior Common Room lawns of the UWI Mona campus on Christmas night.

A section was provided for smokers and another decorated with elegant white leather seats, for those who just wanted to sit and 'chill-out'.

Adding to the spectacle was the variety of food provided. Jerk pork, chicken, lobster, shrimp were among items on the menu.

DJ Narity, Jazzy T and Bloodline provided the music for the night.

Bartenders busy

So, with the right blend for a great party, expectations were high from the start.

The bartenders were kept busy the entire night, as some patrons engaged more in drinking than dancing. Even a segment of fast-paced soca could not get the crowd moving. Voicemail's Ready To Party and Jiggy Time created a very short-lived vibe. For the rest of the night, patrons chose to lyme.

The tempo inside the venue was, for the most part, low, but was about to be turned up a notch. Tessanne Chin's Hideaway transformed the venue into a massive choir, as patrons heartily sang out.

"The party is going good - well, the music and the food is. The vibe is good, even though not everyone is dancing," said Makeda Mahadeo, a patron.

Hip-hop segment

It took a hip-hop segment to really lift the crowd. So, with a cigarette in one hand and a beverage in the other, many partygoers rocked to Sean Paul and Estelle's Come Over, Rihanna's Rehab and Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl.

The lawns then 'caught fire' with Lil Wayne's Lollipop and Ms Officer. The party vibe seemed to kick in when most persons had had enough to drink, and dancing became contagious.

Frenzy

Mr Vegas' Tek Wey Yuhself and QQ's Rum Ram allowed partygoers to dance and 'free-up' themselves a bit.

Things got out of control when the intro to Vybz Kartel and Spice's Rompin' Shop twas played. The selector teased with Rompin' Shop before playing Tony Matterhorn's Dutty Wine, Mr Vegas's Hot Wuk and Busy Signal's Pon Di Edge, which threw the party into a frenzy.

The energy level was maintained for the rest of the night, and most, if not all, patrons left feeling satisfied.

"The party was slow in the beginning, but as it picked up, it just developed into an amazing party," said Joni Thomas.

It was all about taking over the dance floor.
