Absinthe - wild, addictive

Sadeke Brooks, Staff Reporter

Move over little black dress, this beauty rocks the green well.

Whistle blowing, screams and kisses welcomed the new year at Absinthe, held at Temple Hall Estate on Wednesday Night.

At midnight many persons were filing into the venue, but were still early enough to join the festivities. There were many couples who were lip-locked and hugging. But long after the countdown was finished people still continued to scream and blow horns, which were given to patrons upon entry.

As '90s' hip-hop and R & B songs filled the air, the patrons danced to the music, not missing a beat.

But the promised fireworks were not seen until 1 a.m. and were minimal when they appeared.

Coppershot started to build the vibe but selector Johnny Kool's set was better received. During his stint, he played old tracks and teased the patrons with new ones. Dance moves like Tek Weh Yuhself and Willie Bounce were a refreshing change.

It was Renaissance Disco, however, that took the party to a 'wining' high with songs like Bubble by Charly Black and Pamputtae's Good Good. Then, when it was thought that it could not get any better, Renaissance Disco selected some early '90s' 'bruk out' tracks that had the crowd in a frenzy.

And, it got ugly when Mavado's Dem A F— began playing as many patrons booed loudly. There was the opposite reaction when Vybz Kartel's Wah Dat Fah was selected.

Luckily, the tension dissipated when Rampin Shop was played. At this time, 'every girl grab a man' and they danced sensually. Soca was later added to the mix of things.

While the patrons seemed to enjoy themselves, there were a few glitches. Walking in heels to the food area was difficult as the heels sank into the soft ground. In addition, there was a shortage of food, but the servers promised that more food would come eventually.
